Opportunities: Internship/Co-Op

Western Summit enjoys an employee retention rate that is well above industry average. A large portion of our strategy is recruiting talented students from the nation’s top construction, safety, and engineering programs – and by building strong relationships with the faculties so that they consider us an employer of choice.

Internship/Co-op Program Overview:

Students selected to participate in our internship/co-op program begin a challenging journey, but one that often leads to permanent and satisfying employment.  Those selected are hired as Field Engineers, Estimators, Project Engineers, or Safety Managers. The co-op program is conducted throughout the year for a minimum of three months, but preferably for six to seven months. Students normally start in January, June or September and resumes should be submitted at least two to three months prior to the desired start date. If an individual’s values and work ethic align with WSCI’s core values and mission, we make a competitive offer. Once interns are selected project assignments are made during April and July.

During the co-op program interns are trained and encouraged to perform many of the same duties as salaried employees.  Every student also participates in mid-term and final reviews with a mentor. This involvement enables interns to develop “real world” skills while getting a taste of what it’s like to work for Western Summit.

Intern and Co-op Requirements:

  • Course Completion: Students must have satisfactorily completed at least one full year of education toward a degree program
  • Relocation: These are project or office based positions and require temporary relocation during the course of the internship
  • Preferred Majors: Construction Management, Occupational Safety & Health Engineering/Management, and Civil Engineering

Though expectations are high for employees of Western Summit, the reward of being a part of an organization that values its people, offers challenging projects, and opportunities for rapid growth makes for an exciting career. We define best practices and work to ensure that we are the company of choice for the construction workforce of the future -- perhaps your future.
