Western Summit Constructors Accepts Challenge to Help Construct the World's Largest Inland Desalination Plant
At Project Site's Groundbreaking Ceremony

El Paso , TX - Western Summit Constructors, Inc. (WSCI) is helping to meet the serious demand of the availability of a secure fresh water supply source for the growing community within El Paso County .
The El Paso/Fort Bliss Desalination Facilities are being constructed to meet these needs and is the largest public-public partnership of its kind involving the Department of Defense and a local community. This facility will be the largest inland desalination plant in the world. The plant represents a forward looking strategy in water supply – not only for the region but also for a world that is increasingly challenged by short supplies of fresh water. When the project is completed in 2007, it will produce 27.5 million gallons of fresh water daily (mgd) making it a critical component of the region's water portfolio.

In addition to providing a supply of fresh water, the project provides a number of other important benefits. The facilities will serve as a model and center of learning for other inland cites facing diminishing supplies of fresh water. The desalination process not only removes salts but also is the most comprehensive water treatment technology available, removing other potential pollutants from the water. The facilities will augment existing supplies to make sure that El Paso and Fort Bliss have sufficient water for growth and development for 50 years and beyond.

WSCI Executives and Project Management joined 300 guests with a number of notable names and agencies for the groundbreaking ceremony at the plant on Wednesday, August 31. Individuals included U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, and U.S. Congressman Silvestre Reyes, Brigadier General Robert P. Lennox who is Commanding General of Fort Bliss, and the Honorable John F. Cook, Mayor of the City of El Paso . Others contributing to the event were State Senator Eliot Shapleigh and representatives from the offices of Gov. Rick Perry, U.S. Senator John Cornyn of Texas and U.S. Congressman Stevan Pearce of New Mexico .
